For Americans water is more than just something to swim in or visit on vacation.With over 400 billion gallons of water used in the United States every day according to the U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) it is clear water means so much more.Responsible for feeding livestock, hydroelectric-power generation, irrigation, industrial supplementation and personal and public consumption water in many ways keeps the United States running.Couple this with the fact that water is one of the healthiest fluids and fuels for our body and the demand for water in the U.S.Rises exponentially.Privileged to have an ample supply currently The United States uses water at two times the pace of other industrialized countries.By looking over a few of the amazing facts about water in the United States and then assessing how it might better fit into the average citizens life hopefully we can begin to change the perception of water from always around to always needed.The United States has over three and a half million miles of rivers.The US has been blessed to be surrounded and infused with large amounts of water.What many do not realize though is that water is one of the most precious restorers of health that we have available.With less than 1% of the world's fresh water available for safe and clean use, many in America do not acknowledge that they are probably some of the most fortunate people in the entire world.Americans are some of the largest consumers in the world and water plays a vital role in the making of thousands of the products used in the US each day.It is estimated to take about forty thousand gallons of water just to build an entire car.It would be very hard to envisage America without automobiles.Just to grow the food for a typical American family of four takes over six thousand gallons of water.The average person probably has a hard time figuring how much water it truly takes to keep the United States happy.Water is a gift.For most Americans it is responsible for things like public health, fire protection, economic development and a higher quality of life.In a telling disparity the average American uses over a hundred and fifty gallons of water per day while an entire African family only averages 5 gallons of water consumption each time the suns rises and sets.Americans would have a hard time going without baths, clean drinking water, green lawns, golf and the many other enjoyments water plays a considerable part in.Some studies estimate that for every US dollar invested in purified water and proper sanitation eight dollars is returned in the form of economic value and stimulation.To promote water is to promote a better world.It has been noted that access to clean, filtered and contaminant free water in the United States can account for over one and a half billion additional healthy days for children five years old and younger.Health care savings alone can reach over seven billion dollars a year in America when water supplies are properly managed and maintained.Since water is crucial to the functioning of our organs, remaining hydrated, warding off sickness and disease, weight loss, healthy ageing, fitness and productivity America's susceptibility to vast improvements when making water the focus should be easily understood.For many Americans water never seems to run out.From tap water running out of the home sink to the water fountain at the local gym, clean and purified drinking water is often taken for granted by those representing the red white and blue flag.Proportionately Americans are much richer than most and it is my hope that they use the money wisely when it comes to supporting and building the future infrastructures of treated water.Taking care of our water resources should be a priority to all and its starts with us as individuals.We can make a difference.
