The Soul of Life - Find What You Love and Get Your Life in Top Gear

The Soul of Life - Find What You Love and Get Your Life in Top Gear

Just because Helen Keller's quote, "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." has been repeated ad nauseam, it does not make it any less pertinent.Either our little trip on Planet Earth is a rip-roaring ride or it's the pits. For a journey to be exciting and interesting, it has to involve something that we like. The central theme of that journey has to be around something that we are passionate about. It has to contain an element that is appealing enough to overshadow the discomforts that any trip is bound to have. The same rule applies for that journey that we call life.Unless that life revolves around an impassioning pivot, around something that touches us deeply, the experience will not be truly satisfying or worthwhile. We need an anchor. We need an island where we can retreat from the vagaries of life, recharge the human battery, erase the effects of tribulation so that we can get back in the fray with the vigor and energy necessary to surmount the tedium and challenges that we are bound to find along the way.For a privileged few, that all-important buoy will be handed on a silver platter however, for the great majority of mortals, it is something that we must either find or create. In some cases, it might not be an easy task. But always a possible one.Unless someone is totally brain-dead, there are always some areas of interest that can be found, cultivated, explored and turned into a life's passion. It may not always be an easy task but it is a capital one and one that must be performed. The quality of our life depends on it.The soul of life is passion.Passion about a cause, an issue or a project that we would willing work on for hours everyday even if we were not being paid to do it.It has to be something that we deem to be bigger than we are. Some life's project that could define us and express what we most would like to be remembered for.It has to do with contribution. With expressing our talents and ourselves. With making a difference in the world. It has to involve spontaneous but not totally unselfish generosity. And, most of all, it has to contain its own reward.A bit like an artist who finds pure joys in creating his art whether he gets paid for it or not. That all-important sphere of activity might lie dormant within us and just waiting to be discovered. We don't really know if we like being involved in something until we try it.People discover all the time passions that they did not know that they had and never even suspected that they had.It is through trials and errors that those areas of interest can be found and, sometimes they can be found in the most unsuspected places. The secret is to keep on looking and searching until we've found it.Different stages in our life may create different passions.A person deeply involved in sport in his younger days might discover a passion for more sedentary activities as he grows more mature and more reflective. We are multi-dimensional individuals and many facets of our personality are yet to be discovered.Life is a journey of discovery. We don't really know all that we are capable off until we've explored a multitude of experiences. However, one thing is absolutely certain. There are passions that lie dormant whiting us, just waiting to be discovered, activated and set on their way to turn a humdrum life into a fantastic adventure.
