Casting the Vision for Men

Casting the Vision for Men

Vision is one of the critical ingredients to leading a business, an organization or a ministry. When you want to deliver the Big Goal, give the people "The Vision" of the future or what could or should be, which will energize and organize them.Possibly the most famous vision statement was from John F.Kennedy, on May 25, 1961 in a joint session of Congress. He cast the vision of putting a man safely on the moon by the end of the decade. This was, to the American People, impossible, however when the President said it, it became the vision to rally around. There were little victories or milestones achieved, leading to the fulfillment of the BIG Goal.In leading people, we need to give them vision of what will occur when the organization strives toward the vision, meeting the milestones along the way.Casting the Vision for the men.How might that look? First, men are tough to organize. We have all experienced Women's Organizations that are 5 to 10 times larger than the Men's and always active.Cookies, candy, knitting, quilting, talent shows, mission drives, huge retreats and on and on, this is what makes it work for the women. The women are normally outward focused.Where as men seem to, often times, flounder from barbecue, to horse shoes, to bowling, to possibly a pancake breakfast and a retreat.I hope this is not a secret or a revelation to you.Your experience may be different than mine in the 4 areas of the country that I have been privileged to be a member of Men's Organizations in Seattle, Buffalo, Philadelphia and San Francisco. This is not rocket science and not because the women have nothing to do, but go to organization stuff. The women, always have a mission, raising money for a worthy cause, is always big and you can do a lot with this as causes all over the world have unlimited needs, Don't get me wrong they are not needy they have needs.I have been on trips to Nicaragua and Malawi, Africa, besides meeting with representatives in the US.These are the hardest working, most wonderfully positive families on the planet. They produce results everyday. Now think about it.Women have a mission, that supports a vision for reaching the world and the men are going bowling.Whoops! I am guilty. What's the next move?Develop the Vision, then have your leadership approve the vision and then set the mission for each Men's event outing etc.And be sure it lines up with the vision,.One more important thing. The women's organizations, that I have witnessed, have an outward facing vision; world causes, homeless, orphans etc, where the men are playing horse shoes, which is somewhat inward facing.I am guilty.Cast the vision. Make it outward facing, to reach people in your city and the world.Make a difference! Then be on a mission to strive toward the vision..• Digging a well, over 1 Billion people in the world do not have real access to clean drinking water.• Raising money to build a school or class rooms, 400,000 children in Guayaquil, Ecuador do not have access to education.Work to bring the men who have become casual participants in the Men's Organization, back into active attendance and stronger participation.Do this to close the back door and keep men interested engaged. One step at a time, start by encouraging each man to take an active role in an area that interests them, which supports the vision. When getting men to participate.Pair each man with a man who is a strong participant. You will find iron sharpens iron, creating a strong organization, one good man-to-man relationship at a time. Finally, be passionate when you and all the men talk about the vision and how each activity and event supports the vision.A short summary, first I have learned a lot from researching this article.More important when organizing, set the vision with your leadership team, then get approval from those leaders to whom your are responsible, then be sure everything you do passionately supports the vision.
